The final quilt of the Set

Today the quilt made for Tania was delivered safely into her arms. We were so blessed to meet this wonderful family. Making them each a memory quilt was an absolute pleasure.

The Patch girls have been busy making other quilts too lately, here is Linda with her beautiful work.

Teena brought along the pretty quilt the group made for her to take to hospital.

Loris only had a photo to show because her grandbaby needed his birthday quilt before our meeting. I think Edith is much happier than she's letting on.

Special quilts

Today was a big day for the Patch, it was the day we were presenting some very special quilts to three gorgeous kids.
In 2011 a terrible car accident took the life of a young husband and father from our town. His wife Tania was left with a 10 week old daughter and two little boys aged just 3 and 5.
Tania asked us late last year if we could make her a quilt from Keith's clothes. Something she and the children could snuggle under and remember their Daddy.
Tonight we felt so priviledged to present them with three quilts made from the jeans and teeshirts their beloved Dad wore.

All three loved the quilts and the boys remembered their Dad wearing some of the shirts, it was very humbling listening to them talk about their dad playing Lego with them when he wore that shirt.

Tania will also have a quilt soon but for today she received a bag made from a pair of
Keith's jeans.
Thanks Helen for putting in the extra effort to make this beautiful bag.

Pat did a wonderfull job on Clay's new quilt. He found the coin stitched into the pocket quickly when Pat told him she'd discovered in there while she was cutting up a pair of jeans.

Mary made this gorgeous quilt for little Amali. She won't remember her Daddy but she will always feel warm under this snuggly quilt as she hears stories about him.

And she had to have a closer look.

Helen put a smile on Zaine's face with his quilt. This little chap is just a bit cheeky and you can see the delight in his face as he posed for photos.

We all enjoyed seeing the children with their memory quilts and felt good knowing that they will always have something to help them remember their Daddy. The girls who sewed the quilts did a fabulous job from cutting up the clothes, designing the quilts, adding horse embroideries to emphasise Keith's polocrosse activities and endless snipping to get the perfect shagginess to the blocks. A job well done girls, thank you.

Season's greetings for the Patch

We had some fun last night at The Priory. Lots of goodies, Christmas decorations, food, conversation and just a little drop of wine.

The dining room looked lovely with its exposed stone walls and plenty of Christmas bling.

We all had a little challenge to make a clay snowman whilst waiting for our meal. Jenny's snowman made her smile.

Jean and Sue had every right to be proud of their little fellows.

Ursula enjoyed the evening.

And so did Pat.

Teena and Helen look serious. When it was time to switch seats, they needs a few minutes to finish their very important conversation!

Way too many photos for one post but we had so much fun i just wanted to share it all.

Camp Quality 2012

Yesterday a bunch of the Patch girls clustered around at Port Denison.

The Blessing of the Fleet was happening in the marina,

the sun was shining and there were plenty of cheerful faces cruising the market stalls.

We've been working throughout the past year making sure we had enough quilts

to give out to this year's campers and with just a bit of tweaking we made it.

18 lovely bright quilts for boys and girls between the ages of three and 16

all of whom have had their lives affected by cancer.

Some of these kids are sick themselves

and some have a brother or sister who

requires treatment and hospitalisation.

What a great bunch of kids they are and we all got a huge buzz seeing them opening their new quilts.

 I was a delighted to receive on behalf of The Patch a special Certificate of Thanks
from these handsome young men.
Woohoo!

Thanks to all the members who made quilts, helped sort, count and label them, turned up to help with the presentation, take the photos and
understood all about the tweaking when things have to be rearranged.

Some people are always busy

Here's some eye candy. This month we had lots of show and tell at the Patch. Some quilts of course, a clever little folding work satchel that Barb made and Veronica's knitted bag and necklace to ohh and ahh over.

Helen's high tea

After a great deal of planning and attending to details, Helen's idea came to fruition yesterday. She set her mind to hostessing a High Tea at the Patch. The teams were organized into whipping up metres and metres of bunting, searching their china cabinets at home and those of mums and grannies too to find the prettiest cups and saucers. Baking, baking and more baking of tiny delicate cup cakes, pastries and cucumber sandwiches. Our friends from Geraldton Patch were invited and they arrived as a bus load. The Dongara Art Group, known as the DAGs were also invited as we were hoping to use their space at the old Monastery House and they had offered to put on a wonderful display of their artwork. Helen had also invited the CEO of our shire Darren and his lovely wife Jayne to join us.
Many hands make light work and we soon had the old house looking presentable, the sun was shining, food was arranged, teapots were brewing and there was plenty of laughter and fellowship.
A wonderful day it all was and a special thank you goes to Helen for dreaming this up and making it all happen.

Oh dear! The kitchen needed a fair bit of work to straighten up afterwards.
