More behind the scenes pics of "The Public Hanging"

So it continues...........

 

It was hard to capture the magic of each display by camera, even the tiny figures and quilts in "Lilliput" needed thorough inspection.                                                     

The stall holders arrived early to erect their stands

People worked in teams to string the quilts across the verandahs of the historic building.

All is calm and tranquil at "The Beach".

Finally the hundreds of quilts were in position and the crowds were waiting for the gates to open.

Here's Teena all  set to serve the first customers.

Done and Dusted - 2010 Public Quilt Hanging at Dongara

There are lots of tired but happy little quilters in town this week. The Patch's Show is finished and everyone is very pleased with the success of the whole effort.
We must congratulate our Pres. Loris who worked tirelessly to make sure it all went to plan.

First one person, then two and finally three rig up the fishing nets in the Beach Display

Ros' DH Rob was very handy, he set up dozens of stands to hang the quilts from and obligingly reached all the high places we girls couldn't manage.

Back to the Christmas Room. There was lots to do and so many willing to help.

Thanks to everyone involved.

So much activity and eventually things started to take shape.

There will be more pictures soon to show you how it all looked on the day.

Only one sleep to go...........

Preparations are being made for the The Patch's big quilt show this Sunday.
Bus loads of quilt lovers are arriving in town, staying with friends, filling the motels and caravan parks, camping by the roadside............................
Most will visit Northampton today for the Airing of the Quilts and then return to Dongara for the Public Hanging on Sunday.

This is going to be a huge show.There are bags and bags of quilts to be displayed and themed feature rooms have been in the planning for months.

Special items have been begged  and borrowed to enhance the event.

The whole town is a hive of activity.

Only two weeks to go!

First a little apology to Muriel for not remembering that she is the owner of this sweet "Fairy Quilt". Thanks Muriel for reminding me and well done for sewing up such a beauty.

Quilters all over town are busy finishing off their work in readiness for our big "Public Hanging" in just 2 weeks time. Stacks and piles are getting bigger every day!

While the name of our show sounds just a tad gruesome, the hundreds of fresh new quilts on display will be far from macabre.

The best of the quilts produced by The Patch over the past three years will be adorning the verandahs and gardens of the historic Priory Hotel and if previous "Public Hangings" are anything to go by, the atmosphere will be amazing.

There was a big turn out at the Patch on Thursday night.
It was our last meeting before the collecting of quilts together for our "Public Hanging"

Everyone has been working hard to finish items for display and sale.

Show & tell was spectacular.

I'm sorry some of the pics are a bit blurry, some are crooked and most of them were quickly snapped  without taking time to pose for the camera. 

This beautiful masterpiece is Helen's.

Mary (aka Maria) did the next 3 quilts and 4 table runners. She's been a busy girl and such lovely work it is too. Go to her blog to see more of the gorgeous Bargello

Donna made this sweet little bag and it's not my fault it's blurry, she wouldn't hold it still.

This "Breaking the Drought" is Donna's too. Wonderful.

All is not lost!

This is a sad tale but it does have a happy ending. So long ago now we had a "Paper Bag" swap with Club Quilt and everyone posted fabrics and trims along with some sweets to our appointed partner.

Mary P from The Patch worked very hard sewing the fabric Deb from Club Quilt had sent. She stitched and shaped and worried about the gift she was making for Deb until the deadline had passed and she was now quite late with the sending. Life had got in the way for Mary and this made her even later!

A bright little table runner had duly arrived from Deb at Mary's home but still Deb was waiting patiently on the other side of this wide brown land for her gift.

As soon as Mary had her parcel ready she popped into the post office to send it off. It was a fairly big parcel too, filled with extras to apologise for the lateness of the delivery.

The stars were not aligned that day and the package never arrived at Deb's address, we all waited and hoped, emails were sent between Deb & Mary, myself and Peg (the swap mothers), visits and phone calls were made to post offices across the country but NOTHING, ZILCH, NADA! The parcel had vanished as sometimes they do into the very bowels of the post office.

Mary was distraught, of course,  Deb's choice of fabric was missing along with the parcel. What to do?

Make another gift and quickly, choosing a replacement fabric that she hopes Deb will also like and send it with prayers!

Success at last, yesterday we heard that this gorgeous hexie bag is now safely in Deb's possession.
Enjoy it Deb and who knows....just maybe the missing parcel will turn up one day too!
