Magnification

These cheery people, Sandi and Joy, came to the Patch to run a class for us last weekend.

We learnt to make Sandi's version of "Microscope View".

This involved all sorts of tricky sewing but Sandi encouraged us through it all and Joy cheered us along. First we had to select our fabrics and enlarge the pattern on a printer. Then we positioned the "crosshairs" and "lens". This was quite tricky, involving careful cutting and stitching by us all.
Finally we all had our structure done and the fun could begin. Applique, beading, embroidery, so many ways to create our microscoped view. I don't think anyone finished that day, there was too much talking, laughing and eating but we took home our brand new UFOs to finish off soon.

Thanks for the delicious soup for lunch Beatrice and for organising such a great workshop. Thankyou also to Sandi and Joy for the lesson and laughter and to all the students who made such great little quilts..........or they will be quilts soon!

This month's stars

What a great meeting we had at The Patch this week, lots to discuss about the Public Hanging and plenty of show and tell.
Sadie has finished her quilt "Nanna's Farm". Amazing work Sadie.
Loris had her Meshwork class samples to show us, Woohoo, lots of opportunities to turn these into great projects.
Jan, our newbie, is producing fabulous work......we think she's well and truly bitten by the quilting bug.
Here's my latest finish, I am feeling a bit smug to have finished this.
Gloria's Meshwork Samples and a lovely Japanese Knot Bag.
But Maria had the biggest number of finishes with two sweet little pin cushions inside a bag, inside another bag, inside a bigger bag and a gorgeous fun machine mat.......does this girl never sleep? Great work Mary/Maria.
Might have to interview applicants for a better photographer here! Oops!

Bur our best show and tell this month was Teena, sporting her first haircut since her "chemo" and the news that she only has one more radiation treatment to go. Hooray!

Fabulous news Teena, you look beautiful, radiently healthy and an inspiration to us all.
We love you.

The annual Dongara Patchwork Club Retreat at Avalon in Toodyay,

held on 28-30 June 2013.

What a gorgeous, relaxing break!

Our “teddy” theme brought all sorts of bears out into the open, from really big ones to the tiniest, some dressed some not, and of course one of the other variety, elegantly covered by a silk Kimono!

Some sewing, lots of chatting, laughing, food and friends! It was great.

Easter Markets

I hope everyone is enjoying the wonderful weather over this Easter weekend. We had great success yesterday selling raffle tickets at the local market.
The quilt, made by Jan and Mary, was admired by many and we sold heaps of tickets.
Alison was the lucky winner. Congratulations Alison.
We also managed to sell a lot of handiwork pieces which cleared the crate of donated work a little bit.
Here's a few pics of the day.
The very happy quilt winner with her prize.

Thanks to all our stall helpers for the morning too.

D'oyley workshop

Do you know what you can do with Granny's old table linen?
This is what the girls are doing today.
Then you can have something like this........
It's still Granny's handwork but oh so lovely and you will use it and love it.
Thanks Gloria for teaching us all how to slash our stash.

The final quilt of the Set

Today the quilt made for Tania was delivered safely into her arms. We were so blessed to meet this wonderful family. Making them each a memory quilt was an absolute pleasure.

The Patch girls have been busy making other quilts too lately, here is Linda with her beautiful work.

Teena brought along the pretty quilt the group made for her to take to hospital.

Loris only had a photo to show because her grandbaby needed his birthday quilt before our meeting. I think Edith is much happier than she's letting on.
